Splash Notes Nov 19, 2010

The meet with Dedham has been rescheduled for Saturday, December 11 due to scheduling issues on the Dedham side of things. I apologize for the inconvenience, but given we have not had a ton of workout times the tail end of November; it might be a blessing in disguise for us. WE WILL have workout this Saturday, 12/4 from 12 – 2 at Blue Hills, I just receive confirmation on this.

SWIM MEET lINE-UPS
Given the change in date, please revisit your family schedule and make sure the new meet date of 12/11 works for you. IF your status has changed, please email me, IF you are still able to participate, please do NOT respond.

If at all possible, please let me know of any change in status by Saturday, December 4.

Splash Notes Nov 8, 2010

It was wonderful seeing so many old and new faces this weekend! I think overall everything went relatively well. If you have any concerns or questions about the program that have not been addressed in “Splash Notes” or the parent packet, please do not hesitate to email me.

If you have not yet turned in your registration over the weekend please do so this coming weekend. We need to turn in our rosters to the league by December 1. We will be able to turn all other additions in by January 1, and would be able to prorate any registration taken where swimmers would begin swimming in January.

Practice Rules Of the Road Pool…

Please review the following with your swimmers and we will reinforce this at practices as well. We have many new swimmers and young swimmers who have been with us but have forgotten since the summer time. Listed below are a couple of helpful tips/rules that will make practice more enjoyable to everyone.

  • ALWAYS Circle Swim! You will always keep the lane line on your right shoulder and swim around the black line at the bottom of the pool.
  • If someone is trying to pass you, allow them to by moving over the right as far as you can so they can get by.
  • If a teammate is faster than you, please allow them to go before you. We try to have swimmers go in order in the lanes fastest to slowest so everyone is working at their own speed. It also keeps everyone safe so no one gets a foot in the face by accident.
  • Once you finish into the wall, move over so everyone has an opportunity to touch the wall at the end of the pool.
  • If we are down in the deep end, everyone can squeeze onto the wall with one hand on the wall and one hand off and turning sideways.
  • Please do NOT sit or even worse stand on the lane lines – we do NOT want to break them and have to buy a new one for any of the facilities we workout at.
  • ALWAYS start your swim by pushing off the wall. DO NOT get in the habit of starting from under the flags or away from the wall.
  • ALWAYS finish your swim by touching the wall. Do NOT get in the habit of stopping before the wall.

More Practices Added!

At Dedham
We have added our final string of practices for the season. The only time times/dates will change from here on out will be due to weather or unforeseen conflicts that could come up with the facilities. We obviously do not anticipate any during the winter, but will keep you apprised if they do come about.

Please keep in mind all practices are merely additional workout opportunities for our swimmers. If you can not make it, please do not stress. We understand and support our swimmers being involved in activities outside of swimming!

Listed below are the additional workouts at Dedham. These appear in the blue calendar/schedules that should have been picked up at the pool this weekend. If you did not receive yours, please make sure you get your copy this weekend.

Splash Notes Nov 6, 2010

We are starting practices today and I wanted to give you all an overview of what to expect and what you need to do/accomplish while your child is in the water. I have broken up topics below – please make sure you take a look at each area.

Please remember that parent seating is in the stands. You are more than welcome to watch workout, but we ask that you do not go onto the pool deck. There are locker room facilities at Blue Hills; they are specific to gender so keep that in mind. We always try to encourage the buddy system with our swimmers when they are in the locker room.  If you use the showers, please make sure you turn them OFF ALL THE WAY when you are done. Remember to police your area for your personal things and any garbage in the stands and locker room before you leave.

POOL ADDRESS – BLUE HILLS

Swimmer Check-in Clip boards

In an effort to try and track attendance, we have four clip boards by last name on the tables located in the hallway leading into the pool area. Please make it a habit to stop there when you arrive and check your swimmer(s) in as being present for workout.

Reception Table

This is a parent volunteer run right when you walk in the doors. We will have the following materials for you to pick-up today.

  • Revised Practice Schedule and Calendars
  • Parent Packets if you did not receive one yet

Registration will be accepted at the reception table for anyone who has not turned in registration and payment yet. If your child’s name does NOT appear on the check-in sheets, we have NOT received your registration. All registration received to date has been processed and entered.

Weekend Practice Schedule

Please send your child on deck at these times listed below, and we will take it from there.  Meghan Curran and I will lead the show this weekend with 4 – 6 teen helpers each day. Our plan is to quickly move to getting all the kids in the water and working on skills. You will see us moving some swimmers lane to lane as we begin to confirm group assignments. Our youngest group, Little Rays, will keep to half laps for at least the month of November and then once we break out into two groups, we will tackle the full 25 yards.

12 – 12:30            Little Rays I and II
12:30 – 1:00        Blue I/II and Gold IA/IB

Group Assignments

I have tentatively placed swimmers in groups, which can be seen in the attached. Please understand that during the month of November there might be some moving around that we do of the swimmers based on what we see in the water. Once we get through the November weekend workouts, I will send out a revised listing of where everyone falls. If you have any questions on where your child has been placed, please let me know via email or leave me a note at the pool and I will get back to you. My availability to talk would be before noon and after 2PM on Saturday and before 1PM and after 3:30 on Sunday.

If you have any questions regarding any information within this email, please feel free to contact me via email.
