Splash Notes Feb 26, 2011
Feb 26th
We are beginning to wind down this season with just the A & B Championships (Regional) Meets remaining. Workout focus will continue to be on technique work for strokes, starts and turns with an emphasis on anaerobic work/sprinting. Even if you are not competing in the final meets, there is still a ton of value to attend workouts!
Attached is the meet entries for the B Championship Meet. Please note ALL relay entries and alternates listed below. We are only allowed to enter in one relay per event so entries are based on best times. We NEED everyone who is listed to be at the meet and if things change with family plans, please let me know before 5PM Friday, March 4. This will allow me to submit scratches to the meet officials once I arrive at the meet.

Splash Notes Jan 23, 2011
Jan 27th
I want to congratulate all the swimmers who participated in the Wellesley swim meet. It was not an easy meet to swim given the level of swimming our athletes were up against. I think one of the toughest lessons we need to learn in life is that our focus as a person is to be the best person we can be, whether it is an athlete, student, musician, artist – all of the above. We can NOT compare ourselves to others, BUT we can use the achievement of others to inspire us to set goals, and to work and try harder. Often times when we see where we could be it helps us make goals of where we want to be some day. Each of the athletes on our team has a special talent and each one of them is striving to be the best they can be. I know as parents this is a constant lesson and maybe discussion we all have in our households. So chins up, keep working hard and each of us will realize our goals someday, you just need to stay positive and believe in yourself!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
Parents – the coaching staff cannot thank you all enough for your support throughout this season. Serving on the board, helping out at meets, getting your swimmers to practice and meets, helping out at practice with check-in or just carrying my stuff out to the car – all is very helpful and we would not be able to do this without you and your support. THANK YOU!
WELLESLEY MEET TIMES
Tthe times from the meet yesterday have been posted on this site. I am trying to obtain the other file I need to download into my system so I can get the reports that I typically send out, so for now, you all at least have the times. I will forward the complete results once I have that file.
QUICK REMINDER
We have four more dual meet dates. If you have intention on swimming in Regional A or B meets you MUST swim at least five dual meets. The meet against Framingham and Westboro last weekend counted as two meets, as does the meet against Framingham and Brookline on 2/5. Please be mindful of this as we move toward the end of the season. Later this week I will send out the meet totals for our team so you can see where your swimmer is at relative to meet totals.
KUDOS!
The coaching staff would like to congratulate all swimmers for achieving best times at meets, team records, and Region A qualifying times so far this season.
Framingham/Westboro Meet
Swimmers had 52 Best Times or 28% of all swims at the meet were best times.
Sudbury Meet
Swimmers had 41 Best Times or 29% of all swims at the meet were best times.
Wellesley Meet
Swimmers had 49 Best Times or 28% of all swims at the meet were best times.
Remember best times will likely not occur at every meet and sometime with our younger swimmers you will even notice a huge difference in times from one meet to the next. I look at my own children and sometimes I just don’t know who is going to show up that day at the meet J .
A Regional Times!
8 & Under Boys
Bryce Kiley – 25 Fly and 25 Back
9-10 Boys
Trevor Carroll – 25 Breast
Connor Miller – 25 Fly
Austin Reardon – 25 Free
11-12 Girls
Caroline Cox – 50 Fly
13 –14 Girls
Charlotte Rivard – 50 Free/50 Fly/100 IM
Marguerite Lee – 50 Breast
Tessa Maguire – 50 Back
13 –14 Boys
Aaron Portanova – 50 Free/50 Breast
There are many other swimmers who are VERY close to qualifying for this meet, so keep up the hard work and let’s see how things go for the final four meets! I have attached these time standards for everyone’s reference. All 15 – 18 swimmers will swim during the A Regional meet weekend.
Team Records
Congratulations to the following swimmers for breaking team records.
9 – 10 Boys
25 Breast – Trevor Carroll – 21.14 and Aidan Reardon 21.75 swam under the 22.03 previous record.
15- 18 Boys
50 Fly – Joe Thomas 27.49 swam under the 27.72 previous record.
MEET WARM-UPS
It is very important that ALL swimmers get in and warm-up. I know our warm-up time is only 15 minutes, but we need to all get in and at least loosen up a bit and do a couple of sprints. Swimmers, if you are 13 – older – please keep in mind that the younger swimmers look up to you and they WILL follow your lead. If they see you not warming up then they will not participate either. We are a team and we need to do things as a team, like warm-up! The coaching staff will work with the swimmers on this in workouts, but parents if you can reinforce this at home and better yet, share this email with your older athletes as well, that would be wonderful.
COACHES HELPERS NEEDED!
This is another item to share with your older swimmers if they are helping with our younger swimmers. We need five or six 13 & older swimmers who are willing to help in the bullpen with the 8 & under swimmers. We have a tremendous team of parent volunteers who help out at meets in the bullpen, but they are barraged with questions that they sometimes can’t spend time with, having some older swimmers available to answer these questions and reassure swimmers would be a huge help!
LOST AND FOUND
I have a growing number of lost and found items that are being left as meets. If you are missing towels, knit hats, swim suits, please check the rubber made container at the check-in table today.

Splash Notes Dec 20, 2010
Dec 21st
What a great meet yesterday! We had some very exciting races and all of the swimmers swam beautifully! 82 swimmers or 56% of our team participated in this meet. Natick had a little over 100 swimmers in the meet, so we were outmatched number wise and this is a team we swim at the end of the season, so it would be terrific if we can have a higher participation level and give them more of a run for their money! The final score was Norwood 305 Natick 479.1.
A couple other points of interest from the meet:
- 161 individual swims were swum.
- 54% best times were accomplished – awesome!
- 3 swimmers of the 82 were in their first meet ever – great job!
A special thank you to Marie Bonner for once again organizing all of you, she has been a wonderful support this season! Kudos also goes out to those who worked the meet:
Stroke & Turn: Manny Escobar and Karen Carlson
Timers: John Looney, Maria Conley, Denise Kiley, Bob Stebbins, Tracy Curran, Myev Bodenhofer
Bullpen: Holly Whelan, Kerry Reardon, Jacki Bedard
Scoring Table: Christine Larson & Sarah Sullivan
I know what a busy time of year it is and the coaching staff appreciates your support as parents and the interest that you all take in your children. Your help and support is what makes our program work!
Meet Results
Attached are the meet results from yesterday. Natick Meet Results Please bear with me as regarding the new computer program we have. I am experiencing a bit of a learning curve and need to spend some time with the online tutorials over the break so that I can put together the reports you all would like that give you all your child’s times over the course of the season.

We still have a few orders that have not been picked up yet, so if you have an order, please see Marie Bonner at Westwood on Tuesday to pick it up.
