High School Update
Norwood Aquatics Club Splash Notes – NHS Swim Team Highlights Included! –October 19, 2011
Oct 20th
Thank you to those of you who have taken the time to run your registrations by my house or dropped them in the mail. Keep ‘em coming! My goal for everyone is to have all registration in by Monday, October 24! Not to promote procrastination, but if you miss this date, I will of course still take your swimmer’s registration, but truly I need to get these in so I can divide up training groups.
Another deadline that is sneaking up on all of us is the apparel orders. NAC team apparel makes great holiday gifts! These are due no later than Wednesday, October 26 (ONE WEEK FROM TODAY)! I have pulled this out of the full registration packet for those of you just looking for that part of the long document.
NHS Swim Team Updates
In an effort to better keep our swimming community informed of how our high school swimmers are doing, you will find some recent swim team updates. I will try to include these in all Splash Notes forthcoming. Great job swimmers, you all are doing AWESOME!
Tuesday, 10/18 V. Framingham
A tough meet against Framingham (100 – 81) but still one with some highlights and heroics (swimmers and divers subbing in last minute for sick/injured teammates). Alex Metta, Will Higgins, Emily Khillarah, Jimmy Conley, Kyle MaClaughlin, Manny Escobar, Patricia Lee (with a new team record in 100 backstroke) and Natalie Looney all had best times and/or first place finishes. Kudos to swimmers who had to sub in. For example, Captain Megan Clifford was unable to swim last minute due to an injury when she fell right before the meet. Freshmen Natalie Looney and Manny Escobar both swam events in her place and both came out of water with personal best times! That is only one example of this team’s unity and one of the main reasons for our success this season.
Friday, 10/14 V Braintree
Amid sore shoulders and tired bodies, the Mustangs were able to keep a much improved Braintree High team at bay with their depth and versatility. When some of our top scorers were unable to compete is some of their events, others stepped up and got the points needed for the 101 – 85 victory. This is the toughest part of the season and with powerhouses Framingham and Walpole coming up the Mustangs may find them short handed. So now is the time for others to keeping stepping up. Thus far this season that is exactly what has happened. When the team found themselves ahead by only a mere 4 points mid way through the meet, Marguerite Lee, Megan Clifford, Charlotte Rivard, Anthony Rodgriguez, Katherine Osborne and Bailey Lambert are among many that swam different events at the last minute against Braintree because that is what the team needed. Norwood was able to pull ahead and secure the win with solid performances in the last four events of the meet. Shannon Wilson dove officially for the first time this season and earned points for the team. Will Higgins and Emily Killarah came away from the meet with best times in their 100 freestyle events.
Tuesday, 10/11 V Weymouth
Norwood 106; Weymouth 66. Weymouth High is a relatively small team so the Mustangs were able to shake things up a bit and swim different events, still achieving their 7th win of the season. The NHS swimmers swam to a 1 -2 -3 sweep in all but two events. Evelyn Metta swam a personal best in the 200 yards free for the win. Other personal bests were accomplished by Meaghan Shaughnessy, Katherine Osborne, and Eddie Hernon. A highlight of the meet was Patricia Lee’s school record in the 100 yards backstroke. She just nipped Alexandra Metta’s record by .06 of a second. One reason this team is so successful this year is because there are so many great rivalries on the team and these swimmers just constantly push each other. Chances are that particular record may be lowered again as three swimmers (Megan Clifford too) have been within tenths of it.
Congratulations to High School Sectional/State Qualifiers to Date
Our largest contingent ever…Anthony Rodriguez, Ev and Alex Metta, Will Higgins, Megan Clifford, Patricia Lee, Marguerite Lee, Eddie Hernon, Jimmy Conley, Kristen Folan (diving), and Charlotte Rivard have all qualified for sectionals and/or states.

Winter Swim Team Registration
Wednesday, September 21 – Monday, October 24, 2011
Winter team registration is continuing through Monday, October 24. Please get your registration in soon. We truly need to see where we are numbers wise for all training groups so we can make any necessary adjustments.
If you miss the swimsuit orders, you can still order a generic royal blue one online through K&B. We are ordering a few additional silicon caps and will also have latex caps.
Apparel orders need to be in no later than Wednesday, October 26. All items are wonderful holiday gifts and will be in prior to the holidays. Please do not delay on getting your orders turned in!
New this year we are selling winter parkas. These are “Norwood” generic meaning you can use them for any sport – they are not specific to just swim. We must have 12 committed orders to place this order with K&B. If we do not have 12, we will still be able to order generic parkas and get embroidery done on our own. The price for these is $75 versus $99. I have samples of these at my house as well if you would like to come over and try one on. I must know commitments for parkas ASAP – I’d like to get this order placed by next Friday so we can get them in prior to our first meet and the holidays. If you are interested, please email me at norwoodstingrays@gmail.com .
Finally, registration packets are on my doorstep. So if you are having printer issues or problems opening the attached, please stop by and pick one up. My address is 96 Maple Street.
