Splash Notes Feb 26, 2011

We are beginning to wind down this season with just the A & B Championships (Regional) Meets remaining. Workout focus will continue to be on technique work for strokes, starts and turns with an emphasis on anaerobic work/sprinting. Even if you are not competing in the final meets, there is still a ton of value to attend workouts!

Attached is the meet entries for the B Championship Meet. Please note ALL relay entries and alternates listed below. We are only allowed to enter in one relay per event so entries are based on best times. We NEED everyone who is listed to be at the meet and if things change with family plans, please let me know before 5PM Friday, March 4. This will allow me to submit scratches to the meet officials once I arrive at the meet.

Splash Notes Feb 14, 2011

WOW – what a wonderful meet yesterday. Out of 158 individual swims, our swimmers had 65 best times! That is 41%! Congratulations to Connor Miller for setting a new team record for the 9-10 boys 25 fly with a time of 17.45.  The old record was 18.04 swam by Joe Thomas in 2005. Joe is 16 now, some of you might have seen him swim the 100 Free yesterday – he swam it in 52.93 – a best time and one that would have qualified him for the State High School Swim Meet!  Terrific swim Joe!

Great job to everyone – remember that best times don’t happen every meet, if you did not get one this meet, you will! We have one more dual meet and one more shot to get some “A-Regional” times before the “A” meet. There are a number of swimmers right on the cusp of these times – so get excited about the final dual meet and let’s see what happens.

I want to share with you a comment that we received from some of the Newton parent volunteers. They said that we have a very nice, polite group of swimmers! This is not the first time we have received this type of compliment during the season. You all are doing a wonderful job in and out of the pool.  Parent’s thank you for your commitment to your swimmers and the program – those compliments are because of the outstanding families we have and all the hard work we do with our children at home.

MEET VOLUNTEERS – THANK YOU!
This was a very challenging meet logistically for the bullpen and for all the parents given the set-up with where the swimmers were asked to sit. I would like to thank ALL of our parents especially those who worked computer, timing, stroke & turn, bullpen and pre-bullpen. It was not an easy task I know and many of you were probably ready to hurt someone or something by the time you were done volunteering. Please know that your efforts do not go unnoticed! We would not be able to be a part of this league without the wonderful parent support we have.

SWIM MEET COMMITMENTS FOR 2/20 MEET!
Attached are the meet commitments for our final dual meet this season. Please take a look at it and make sure your child’s name is marked if they intend on swimming. Let me know by no later than Wednesday, 2/16 by 9PM so that I can get meet line-ups done.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 20TH MEET – SNACK BAR DONATIONS NEEDED
We will run a snack bar at our only home meet and would like to ask every family whether your child is swimming in the meet or not to make some type of donation. Thank you for all who have donated something thus far, your support is much appreciated.

We will collect any final donations during workout at Blue Hills on 2/19 or dropped off at Mary Beth Cox’s house – 67 Beach Street. Listed below are specific items we would like, pick something that works for you and your family. We will update the list as donations begin to come in.

WINTER STROKE CLINICS – FEBRUARY 22 – 24 AT WESTWOOD – REGISTRATION OPEN
REGISTRATION IS DUE NO LATER THAN THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 17 – only six spots remain so DO NOT DELAY. Stroke clinics will be offered by Coaches Colleen and Kim Miller during the Winter Break. There will be no more than 6 swimmers per group, and swimmers will be divided up by ability levels. This is a wonderful opportunity for your swimmers to get more intensive stroke work in a smaller group setting. We are limiting this program to 12 swimmers per 45 minute session, or a total of 24 swimmers for the Winter Clinic series. You must commit to all three days and pre-registration and payment is required so that we can schedule the appropriate number of coaches for this program.

Session I:  10:00 – 10:45AM (Open to Gold—Senior Groups)
Session II: 10:45 – 11:30AM (Open to Little Rays and Blue)
